Rhyme Time!

Follow the advice in this little rhyme, no broken braces will help you finish on time!

HARD & STICKY snacks should be avoided; use COMMON SENSE so you're not disappointed!

CARAMEL & TAFFY will pull off your braces; longer treatment time will result in sad faces!

POPCORN & NUTS are fun at a movie; they'll pop off your braces which isn't very groovy!

PIZZA & BREAD CRUST may be the best part; this is how most bent wires will start!

BAGELS, PRETZELS & even a BONE; will knock off a bracket so leave well alone!

DORITOS & TACOS are a nice spicy treat; but for breaking braces they're hard to beat!

RAW FRUIT, even APPLES eaten the wrong way; will mean you'll probably be seeing the doctor today!

If HARD VEGGIES like CARROTS & CELERY are not cut small; off the teeth, the braces will fall!

We know GUM is fun to chew; but while you're in braces it's not really for you!

PENS & PENCILS should stay out of your mouth; otherwise your braces will be heading south!

This is so important we must say it twice-- NEVER, NEVER chew on ICE!

We will work hard as a team to build your new smile; otherwise you'll wear braces for a long long while.

SMILE!

Simple randoM acts of kIndness heLp Everyone!
The SMILE letters are all over the place in the acronym so you have to look for them...just like opportunities to make someone's day. SMILE's intention is to inspire people everywhere to watch for ways to show kindness to others. SMILE could cost nothing. Simply open a door for someone, say "Hello" to a stranger or let someone else go before you. Or SMILE can cost as much as you wish. Volunteer time, donate goods, services or money to a local service organization, or become someone's mentor. There's no group to join. There's nothing to buy. SMILE only asks that you put others before yourself, be kind to one another and keep in your mind that we are all much more alike than we are different. (from smiledaily.com)

Second Time Around: An Invisalign Success Story

Rachel knows what it's like to wear braces - she went through treatment as a teenager. Like many people, at some point she stopped wearing her retainer. Without the support of her custom retainer, her teeth started to readjust as she aged.
"A couple of my teeth in particular had started to move," Rachel says. "Every time I looked in the mirror, I noticed these two teeth creeping forward. Some days, I would literally look at my reflection and say 'Whoa.'"
When Rachel found out about Invisalign, the tooth-straightening system that involves wearing clear plastic aligners, she was hooked. "All it took was a single visit to my doctor for them to make impressions of my teeth," says the 26-year-old sales rep. A sequence of thirteen custom plastic aligners are now bringing her teeth back into perfect position.
Currently on her third aligner, Rachel is delighted to report that Invisalign is working out even better than she expected. Prior to treatment, she had worried that she'd forget to wear the aligners, especially since she had trouble remembering to wear her retainer. "I have a tendency," she admits, "to not do things on a regular schedule - I'm terrible at taking my vitamins every morning!" She found wearing her aligners to be simple, and describes the experience as natural. "At this point, I feel weird if they're not in," she says. "And they don't interfere with eating, because I can just take them out at mealtime!"
Her aligners don't show: they are made of thin plastic and they snap tightly onto her teeth. Rachel chuckles as she recalls, "The only person who picked up on the difference was my boyfriend’s mom, and she just thought my teeth were shinier!”
Rachel does like to point out her aligners to friends. “I want them to know that Invisalign is a cool way to have perfect teeth again – even if they were like me and stopped wearing their retainers after having braces as a kid.”

January is National Blood Donor Month

In the US, most blood centers have difficulty keeping any more than a three-day supply of blood for transfusions. This means that the blood you donated last month is long gone. The need for blood, platelets, and plasma is constant, but only three in every 100 Americans donate blood, coming together to donate 81 million units of blood annually. Baby boomers currently account for the most blood donations, but they are rapidly reaching the age when medications and health issues bar them from being able to donate. At the same time, they are the largest age cohort of the world population and require more donated blood for their own health, quickly using much of the supply they once supported themselves.

Orthodontic Specialists of Florida encourages you to give blood and give back to your community.
