Father's Day is June 17th

At its heart, Fathers Day is about family with the focus on dad. It should not be about expensive gifts but rather family values and a recognition of Dad’s contribution to the family. Fathers Day is about honoring Dad, for all that he has given and continued to contribute to the family.

Orthodontic Specialists of Florida would like to thank and honor Dad's everywhere for their care,  love and support they give to us, or families and the community. Happy Father's Day!

June is National Outdoors Month

June is an especially active time for recreation in America, with millions of us commencing summertime activities and hundreds of annual events. June 2012 will be the 9th Great Outdoors Month celebration to highlight the benefits of active time outdoors to people, to families, to communities and to the nation. Outdoor recreation is a valuable means for education, and that volunteerism is a great gift – to the nation and to volunteers themselves. It is also a great time for summer camping!!!! This May Celebrate Memorial Day!

Memorial day is a great way to remember our patriotic heroes who sacrificed their lives to help us breathe the air of freedom. This day is observed with families and friends visiting cemeteries and memorials to pay homage to their loved ones. Memorial day was first celebrated on May 30, 1868. It was observed by placing flowers on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers during the first national celebration.

May is National BBQ Month!

It is the unofficial month long holiday that officially kicks off the beginning of summer! Here are some unique tips from www.wikihow.com on how to make the most out of barbequing at home!

Organize a pot-luck. This is the best way of interaction, fun, and grilling. Make a list of people, food that is being brought, things to be grilled, and activities to be done. The most popular barbecued items are hotdogs and hamburgers; especially at a beach or park site.

Think more vegetables. Barbecues aren't always about meat. Try full vegetable kabobs and grill a handful for dinner. Get a different aroma taste of grilled peppers instead of cooking them in a pan. Grill a mix variety of zucchini, corn, and other "summer" vegetables for a healthy lunch.

Use less dishes. It takes more dishes and appliances to create a regular meal than it does if you use a barbecue. Take time out on a Sunday afternoon to barbecue and relax more at night before the work week starts again.

Use it as a mini-campfire. Before the fire goes out, use the rest of the heat to make smores. Marshmallows don't need extreme heat or an actual fire to melt. Give kids long sticks to avoid touching the actual barbecue grill and let them have fun.
                                     Exchange BBQ Recipes

Try something different and get a favorite barbecue recipe from a neighbor or friend. See if you like it or change it to your preferences. Teach your oldest child how to barbecue or grill food. Use different kinds of marinates or seasonings each time you grill for different tastes and methods of preparation.

There are many ways you can turn your grilling not only into a flavorful and fun way to cook, but also into a healthy way to eat. By choosing foods that are low in fat, high in nutrients and full of flavor you can get great meals that are also healthy. Grilling can be a very healthy way to cook, as long as you choose lean meats, keep your grill clean and carefully watch the flame. Grilling isn't just for hotdogs and hamburgers either. Use your grill to cook vegetables, fish, seafood and even fruits like pineapple rings.
